This is where Merton students will add their information about their day. The students were given the option to write about their day, a specific subject/class, their entire experience at Merton, or anything that related to being a student at Merton.
Maddie kopecky's day...
I wake up at 7:00 and go to take a shower. At around 7:30 I go down to eat. Then I go upstairs and get dressed and do my hair. Then I brush my teeth and pack my backpack.
I get on the bus at 8:30 and go to school.
9:45 A.M.- Tag starts. Tag is where you have about 15 kids per class and you do activities. Mondays, wednesdays, and fridays are resource days where you can do homework. Tuesdays are tag bonding days, and thursdays are drop everything and read days.
9:20: Math starts. I like math a lot this year because we take notes on a subject and then we get a book assingment. The next day we get another sheet on the same thing we tok notes on the day before. Every 2 lessons we have we take a quiz. And every 4 lessons we have we take a test.
10:08: Study Hall starts- During study hall we just sit around if we dont have work to do.
11:01: We have specials at this time. We have either Art, Gym, or Info Tech. We have sertain days, Days 1-10... Its really confusing at first but you get used to it.
11:53: LUNCH TIME!!! That is all i have to say!
12:30: Language arts... very boring! Sometimes we do fun stuff but not a lot.
1:24: Spanish starts. Spanish is pretty boring because usually all we do in gammer! or take quizes or tests.
2:15: Social Starts. Pretty Boring. Nothing to say.
3:08: Science. It is pretty fun when we do labs but taking notes isnt fun at all!
4:00: SCHOOLS OUT!!!
BB's Day...
My day is kinda boring....
I wake up at 7 do all my morning stuff and then, at 8:30, get picked up by my bus. We are usually late and that is part of the reason why I hate the bus. My bus is also packed so tightly that almost every seat is 3 to a seat. Then, I go to TAG. TAG is basically homeroom and a study hall. At around 8:16 we have to go to 2nd hour. My second hour is Language Arts and I have Mr. Fleishman who is cool but, is very strict about commas. Then, I have 3rd hour which is either band or choir and I'm in both so, no study halls for me :(. Then, its 4th hour and that is when I have gym,art or info tech. It all depends on the number day. Our days are numbered 1-10. After 4th hour we have lunch and recess, our lunches at school are O.K. Then, at 5th hour I have Social Studies with Mrs. Seeboth. After Social Studies I have Spanish with Mrs. Winkel. Spanish is cool but, kinda easy. Then, I have 7th hour with Mrs. Rheineck. She is my teacher for Math and Science. 8th hour is Science and then, at 4, the school day is over and I go home to work on homework except for Tuesdays when I have dance class. K, bye. Oh, almost forgot, we have these little laptops called NetBooks and they are (in my opinion) stupid, but that could be because technology hates me. K, Bye Bye.
Bizzy's Day.... 6:30 a.m.- I wake up and get ready for school. I eat breakfast and make my lunch. When I wake up I get dressed, straighten my hair, and put on my makeup. 8;30 a.m.- At around this time the bus picks me up to go to school. We get to school at around 8:35, but we don't go inside until like 8:45. Until then I hang out with my friends and we usually just talk. At 8:50 our first bell rings and we have to go to first hour. 1st hour- During first hour we have TAG. TAG is just like homeroom. In this class we do extra homework and fun things. At the beginning of the year we payed minute to win it games. 2nd hour- I have science for second hour. Our teacher is Mrs. Rhienick and she loves turtles. In this class we are studying oceanography. We mad murals of the different zones around our school. We had to present to little kids and our parents. This year we have also studied cells, states of matter, the elements, and mixtures. 3rd hour- During 3rd hour I either have band or choir. I dont have study hall because I take all electives. But, if i didn't take them I would have study hal durng this hour. Our choir teacher is Mr. Brooks and our band director is Mrs. McGinnis. We have gotten to go to Minnesota an the Bucks basketball games to perform. 4th hour- Fourth hour is our specials hour. We either have gym, info tech, or art. Info tech can get boring at times and we usually just hang out with our friends. In gym we get to go biking and eat ice cream! After specials we eat lunch and have recess. 5th hour- During 5th hour I have math. Usually in 7th grade, you would take transition math But, i take algebra. mrs. Frei is our teacher and she is really nice. We take a lot of quizes. 6th hour- In 6th hour I have language arts. We have to do a lot of work in this class. I really don't like it because it is very boring. There is usually a lot of homework, too. 7th hour- in 7th hour I have spanish. This is the best class of the day. We spend most of the calss laughing because people are crazy and do stupid things. Most of the time we are laughng at the teacher. Our teacher is Mrs. Winkel. Spanish leaves me laughing the rest of the day. 8th hour- Eigth hour is my last class and i have social studies. Our social studies teacher is Mrs. Seeboth. I have had her for three years. This year we studied mostly about the civil war. Eigth hour ends at 4:00 and I un to the bu because I so happy school is out. When i get home I do my homework, eat dinner, take a shower, and get ready for the next day of school.
Erin's Day....
I wake up at about 7:00. I take a shower, then I eat breakfast and make my lunch. I brush my hair and my teeth. I get on the bus and take a seat next to one of my friends. I get off the bus and wait outside until the bell rings. 1st hour – TAG, really boring barely do anything 2nd hour – LA, usually have to do something on our net books and stuff with writing or grammar. It can be boring at times. 3rd hour – Band or choir, I am not in choir so on those days I have study hall and I usually talk with friends or do homework I was too lazy to do the night before. On band days we play songs that get boring after playing them time after time. I play Alto sax, but in Jazz band that you have to try out for I play the Bari sax which is bigger than the alto. We are going on a band trip tomorrow and Thursday (5/4-5/5). We are going to Minnesota for a musical clinic and a tour of the Minnesota campus. On Fri. we are going to Mall of America. 4th hour - Specials, on gym days we play games or do something related to the unit we are in. Right now it is leisure activities like biking. On tech days we are woring on the project to tell about merton to VanMeter School. On art days we usually do something with drawing. I’m not good at drawing so it is is usually boring and I do not do so good. Lunch – I bring my lunch from home because the school lunch is awful. 5th hour – Science, right now we are in the oceanography unit and are doing a project I don’t know much about because we just started yesterday. 6th hour – SS, we just finished our unit on the civil war and are now working on Reconstruction. 7th hour – Spanish, not doing much, just finished learning about foods. 8th hour – In my opinion, this is the best hour of the day. I have math and you may be thinking “Why Math????” I like my math class because we get off topic really easily and then never have work time. I cannot remember a day when I have not laughed in math.
Sarah's Day....
1st hour- we have T.A.G which is pretty much pointless because no-one talks ever. The teachers think that T.A.G is why the 7th and 8th graders don’t fight…. They’re wrong. The 8 graders sit on opposite sides than the 7. Some T.A.Gs do things, others don’t. Like mine. 2nd hour- Second hour I have science. I love science, it’s my favorite subject. There are two teachers: Mrs. Rheineck and Mr. Rheineck. I have Mrs. Rheineck. Right now we are working on the ocean and making a project. It’s really fun. 3rd hour- in third hour you have either band, choir, or study hall. I either have study hall or choir 4th hour- You have specials: gym, art, or info tech. THEN LUNCH TIME!!!! 5th hour- in 5th hour I have social studies we are currently doing a project on wars and conflicts. It is sort of fun. 6th hour- in 6th hour I have language arts. I really don’t like it. Its boring and teaches you nothing. 7th hour- in 7th hour I have a study hall because I dropped out of Spanish. So I have a 7th hour study hall every day 8th hour- the last hour of the day. I have math and I’m really bad at math so it’s not fun. But I love my teacher Mrs.frei. She’s awesome.
Merton School by Dominic
Merton Intermediate School is a great school. The staff here is very kind and collected. What we do here at Merton is pretty different from other schools. In February of 2010, everybody in grades 5-8 was issued their own personal Netbook, (Miniature Laptop). We were given these Netbook’s because our tech department is probably the most advanced in the Arrowhead School District. Also, we thought it would be easier to put a lot of things/assignments on the computer. We were also pleasured with Smart Boards in every classroom. A Smart Board is basically an interactive dry erase board, but it’s a large touch screen computer.
The students at Merton are pretty kind. Most of the students at Merton get their work done on time and did it well. The classroom sizes are from 20 to 30 kids a subject/class. The teachers help the students one by one if they have a question, unless it’s a question the whole class could be interested in. The subjects that are taught here at Merton are math, reading/language arts, science, and social studies. Now, those are the subject you must take. We have extracurricular activities that we offer, such as choir, band, and Spanish. At the end of the school year, you have to fill out a sheet that decides whether you are going to take one of those.
Some specials we have here is gym, art, and information technology, (info tech). Those are for 7 and 8th graders only. For the younger kids, grades 4-6, they have gym, music, art, library, and information technology, (info tech). Our schedule is just like any school. For grades 4-6, they only switch for social studies, science and maybe math. For 7 and 8th grade, we have hours. We switch for every class.
My day is like… Wake up at 7:30 and take a shower. Then get dressed and go down stairs and eat breakfast. After that, once I’m one eating, I go to m bath room a brush my teeth. My bus then comes around 8:15. The bus ride from my house to school is about 15 minutes with picking up all the other students. Sometimes my dad takes my twin and me to school once he gets home from the fire house. If that’s the case, then we leave our house around 8:30. I live about 5-10 minutes away from school. Once we arrive at school, we stand outside of school for about 10-15 minutes. We go inside at about 9, and have homeroom for about 15 minutes. Then I go to math. Each class is about 45 minutes. After that, I go to either study hall or choir. Then I have specials. After specials, the ole’ beloved lunch and recess.
At 5th hour, I have language arts/English. 6th hour I have my second favorite subject with my favorite teacher… science with Mr. Rheineck. After that I have Spanish. Then my favorite subject, social studies with Mrs. Seeboth. School goes from 9:00 to 4:00. A miserable 7 hours. After school I go home on the bus and do my home work. At about 5:30 to 7:30, I have baseball. I have baseball 3 times a week and tournaments on the weekends. For baseball I am a catcher or middle infield, but I can play anywhere in the field. In the batting order I bat either first or second. After baseball, go home and eat dinner and just chill out the rest of the night. So, that’s the life at Merton and my day.
A Day at Merton by Emma When I first get up at 7:00 I take a shower. Then I get dressed and go eat breakfast. Then I dry my hair. After that I have to make my bed and pick up my room. Then I leave for school at 8:30. When I get to school we wait outside with our friends and talk till it’s time to go in at 8:45. My first class is called TAG it is 7th and 8th graders mixed together in a class. In this class on Mondays it is resource time, Tuesday if a fun class, Wednesday is resource time again, Thursday is reading or achieves, and finally Friday is resource time again. Once the bell rings I have 3 minutes to get to my next class. Then I go to my second hour class with Mr. Fleischman. This is my language arts class. In this class we work on verbs and we do papers and book reports. After that I go put my stuff in my locker. The next class is either band or choir. It switches off every other day. The next class I go to is specials. We either go to either gym, info tech, or art. We have a certain schedule that goes Day 1- Day 10. On days 1, 3, 6, and 8 I have gym, on days 2, 4, 7, and 9 I have info tech (which is kind of like computers). Then on days 5 and 10 I have art. Then after that I go to lunch.I love lunch because you get to sit and hang out with all of you friends. Then you go to recess. Here we can either play basketball, volleyball or just talk in the gym. Your other choice is to go outside. I like to go inside and play volleyball. After that I go to Science. My teacher is Mr.Rheineck. Right now we are learning about Oceanography. Then we go to Social Studies with Mr. Klink. In Social Studies we are talking about the Reconstruction after the Civil War was over. My next class is spanish. We are learning places you can go to. Then my last class is Math.We are in our last unit before the end of the year. By the end of the day it is 4:00 when we finally get out. Then my mom comes and picks me up and I go home. That is what my day at Merton School is like.
William says.... My usual day is me waking up at about 8:00. Then I get out of bed, and I get yelled at by my mom, because I get out of bed too late. Then at about 8:45, I arrive at school just in time to get in with the rest of the class. First I go to tag, and Monday, Wednesday, and Friday are the days that we can go visit other teachers, and get help from them. You can also work on some homework that you forgot to finish last night. Tuesday is a day, where you get some time, to work on your computer. Thursday, is where you have to drop everything and read. It is okay, but there are better things that you could do with your time. Then you drag yourself to second hour, which is an academic class which consists of Spanish, Science, S.S., Math, L.A., or another class that you might have to go to. Next after the academic class, you go to Study Hall, Band, or Choir depending on what day it is. Then you go to a special, which is Info Tech, Gym, or Art. I really think that Art should be an elective, and that you shouldn’t be forced to go to Art. At about 11:45, you go and get some lunch, and get some of the school food. The food at our school is not that bad, but it could be better you can also buy some extras food, but they cost some more money. Then you get the choice of going to recess outside, playing in the gym, or staying at the lunch tables and working on your homework. After that it is back to some boring academics. For me personally I have S.S. which is a pretty good class in my opinion. In Social Studies we have just finished a project about a conflict in the United States. Now we are doing the reconstruction era after the Civil War. For Science we are doing another major project. We are working on making the part of the Ocean that we have been assigned. My group and I have been assigned the Intertidal Zone and we have some really good ideas for that. Then we have to go onto Spanish. Spanish is a pretty decent class. In our school it is optional to take Spanish but they are talking about it having to be mandatory. As of right now though it is still optional and I hope that it stays that way. Finally we go to the last class of the day Math. Math is my favorite class one because it comes easily to me and the other reason that I like it is because it is the last class of the day for me. The end of the day comes at 4:00 p.m. which I guess is kind of late but we also start at 8:45 which is really late for the other schools in the district. That is just my schedule and everybody else has different schedules.
Makenzie’s Itinerary: 1st Hour: Tag-Because our school starts at 9:00, I am ready to start the day strong! In this class we have Mondays, Wednesday s, and Friday, we have resource time. This is where we can go to other teachers to ask questions, or just stay in our classroom to work on homework. On Tuesdays we have relationship bonding, where the 7th and 8th graders have a structured activity with the teachers. Then on Thursdays, it is DEAR. (Drop Everything And Read) 2nd Hour: Art, Gym, or Info Tech- Each day this class switches off. In art we make certain art projects, like clay pots and other things. In Gym, we have different units. My favorite so far has been the broomball unit. That was a blast!! Then in info-tech, either we have a certain project, or we get to work on something else. Right now, we are working on 8th grade graduation stuff. 3rd Hour: Choir or Study Hall- In choir, we have songs that we sing, and we also have a concert twice a year. A Christmas concert and a spring concert. They are a blast! In study hall we are allowed to talk, and travel to certain destinations to get help with whatever we need. 4th Hour: Language Arts- I really should have language arts but instead, I go to a different classroom and work on Pressroom. Pressroom is our schools online website. www.mertonpressroom.weebly.com. It’s a website that has stuff just about our school. Some people have a certain blog. Pressroom has lots of great experiences, and it is really fun. Lunch: Our lunch period is usual. Just sitting at a table with our friends, and eating and being talkative! 5th Hour: Science- Right now in science we are learning about anatomy. We get a lot of projects, and we also take notes, and do experiments. Science is my least favorite class of them all. The teacher is fun, I just don’t like the class in general, and the tests are sometimes difficult. 6th Hour: Spanish- Spanish is the easiest class for me of them all! It is a blast! The teacher is really nice, and she teaches everything so well. She also makes it fun! The tests are pretty easy…if you study and the class in general is really fun! Right now we are doing a fashion show, and we are doing it all in Spanish! It is really fun! 7th Hour: Math- This year, math is my favorite class. Normally, math is my least favorite, and this year, the teacher is amazing, and she teaches everything so well! We are starting our last chapter. Math goes by the quickest, and I love it. The way she teaches the notes, is amazing! I hope it’s like that in high school! 8th Hour: Social Studies- We just finished our last unit, on the civil war. It was really interesting how we learned it all! We played some games along, and we raked up some points, and then whoever had the most points at the end, won a pizza party! I didn’t win…but it was fun anyway. Before that, we worked with discrimination and other things! Social studies has been a blast this year!
By: Andrea Before school, I usually wake up around 7:30. My mom drives me to school to start off TAG. TAG stands for teacher advisory group. This was brought in this year to help build relationships between 7th and 8th graders. We can do homework, read, or play games in TAG. After that we have 2nd hour. In 2nd hour we have specials. We can do art class, information technology, or gym. Each class lasts for about 45 minutes. In 3rd hour we have choir and band. On choir days, the people who don’t do choir stay in a study hall room and work on extra homework. On band days the people who don’t do band stay in a study hall room. In 4th hour, I have science class. Sometimes we do labs in science, but right now we are learning about the moon. Our science teacher is an awesome teacher and everyone likes him. He is funny. After 4th hour, we have lunch. We get about 15 minutes for lunch, which is actually cut short most of the time because we get kicked out for the 4th graders. Then we have recess for 15 minutes and go to 5th hour. I have 5th hour Spanish class. In Spanish we are doing a fashion show right now. We picked partners and our working on the project. Our teacher is really nice and friendly. Next I have social studies. We just finished our unit on the civil war and our working on another war project. Mine is about the Persian Gulf War. In 7th hour, I have language arts. Language arts is very boring because we usually take notes, read, or get projects. The language arts teacher is nice though. Last hour I have math. I am in geometry. There are only about 25 kids in the whole grade in geometry. We are working on dilations of triangles and other proportional things. Math is a really fun class because our teacher is really nice and funny. Then I usually get a ride home with my brother and start the whole thing over again the next day.
Brynn's Day....
1st hour- The first thing I do when I arrive at school is walk into our TAG class, this class last for 25 min. TAG stands for “Teacher adviser group,” this class is used for bringing the 7th and 8th together, it is also a time to finish any homework up from the day before. 2nd hour- After TAG is over I would either go to one of my special classes including gym, art or tech depending on what day it is. 3rd hour- This hour I have study hall this class is about 45 min, it’s a time for me to do any of my homework I didn’t finish from yesterday or ask question on anything I didn’t understand that day. 4th hour- Now I have language arts, in this class we are reading a play right now about The diary of Anne Frank then later we are going to be having a test on the play. We are also keeping a blog and writing different writing prompts on it for the World to see. Next, I have lunch it’s only about 15 min long; this is way too short to eat all my food. Then I have recess we either have an option of going outside or going in the gym and playing basketball or volleyball. Usually I go in the gym it’s better than going outside. 5th hour- This class is also about 45 min long. The teacher gives us a highlight of notes and she teachers and then we right down the rest, then we get an assignment. 6th- Right now in Spanish we are working on a fashion show project we have to perform in front of the class a show completed in Spanish. 7th hour- Now I have science in this class we take notes do experiments and every now and then we will get projects. 8th hour- During Social studies we have been working on these war projects, we had to pick a war and write a paper and then we made a website. We have been working on these projects for about 2 weeks.

Van Meter Blog Post
Here at Merton, we start out the school day with T.A.G. That is, we start out the day in a certain homeroom with both 7th and 8th grade students. After T.A.G, 8th graders have “specials”. Specials are extra-curricular-type classes that are usually a fun time for us! We either have Tech, Art, or Gym during 2nd hour! During Tech, we work on prompts like our graduation video, a digital photography project, a wordle, and a poem about yourself! Netbooks are an essential tool in our school; especially in Tech! In Art, we are currently working on a Native American pottery project! We have been working on one clay pot made on the potter’s wheel and one pot made by hand! Finally, in Gym we are in our Football/Leisure Activities unit! After specials, we have 3rd hour; study-hall, choir, band, or Spanish depending on your schedule! I am not in ban, so I either have study-hall or choir during 3rd hour. Now onto 4th hour! During 4th hour, we have academic classes. I have Language Arts, but my friend Makenzie and I do something as an alternative. We applied to be a Press Room Editor for our school website, and got accepted (at the beginning of the year). Our “Press Room time” is during 4th hour, meaning that we go down to a different classroom (a 6th grade room) and work in the back on our Press Room assignments! After 4th hour we have lunch and recess…Hallelujah! Then we are back to academics for the rest of the day. It’s time to bring out the maracas 5th hour, because it’s Spanish time! During Spanish, we learn about the cultural aspect, vocabulary, and celebrate Spanish holidays! Today we are celebrating Cinco de Mayo! During Spanish, we use our Netbooks a lot! After that, it is on to Social Studies and then Science! My final class, 8th hour, is my math class! I am in an advanced math class that is currently learning geometry with a teacher from our soon-to-be high school: Arrowhead! I love my schedule and the classes here at Merton, and I can’t wait to learn more about your school!
From Karissa Gifted and Talented One of the things that Merton is known for is our gifted and talented department. If a student is advanced in almost any subject, Merton has something different and more challenging for that student to do. Math When a student is advanced in math, they are able to go into the math level above them or in some cases, two levels above their grade level. Another thing that students have the opportunity to do is a math meet, and a math 24 competition. A math meet is where 4 students from 7th and 4 students from 8th grade go to a different school in the school district and compete in math to see which school has the best math students. Math 24 is a game using numbers and students from all over the district compete with that as well. All of these things get students thinking. Geography Every year Merton holds a national geography bee. If you win you are able to travel to different places to keep competing. Spelling Along with the geography bee, Merton also holds a spelling bee. If you are a good speller, you can eventually get to travel to the national spelling bee and possibly win that. Reading If a student is an advanced reader, there are many different things that that person can do. There is a program called Battle of the Books (aka BOB). This program is for students that enjoy reading and are somewhat good at it. First, students make teams of 3 or 4 people that are good at reading. Then, teams are given book titles that the people on the team are responsible for reading over a certain period of time. After their time is up, the teams then compete. A teacher reads questions to the different teams. Every question they answer is a certain amount of points and the team with the most points at the end wins. Another thing that gifted readers are able to do is an advanced reading which is a program for readers that are too advanced for the classroom reading and want a challenge. When you do this program, the students get assigned something, which is usually assigned through a wiki, and they go to the library while their class is doing their own reading. Writing A big thing for writing in our school is press room. It is basically our school news paper but it is online. On the web page, gifted writers get to write about school news, books they have read, and even make up stories that students might want the school to read about. Another possibility for talented writers is a thing called writers round up. It is a day off of school and you get to go to a camp site type of place. During the day, you go there and you get walk and find a place in the wilderness to sit down and just write for a full day. Reading and Writing A program that we have here at our school is WCATY. WCATY stands for Wisconsin Center for Academically Talented Youth. It is an online class that students are able to take. This incorporates reading and writing, and even other subjects. The great thing about WCATY is that there are many topics that you can choose your class to be on. If you are good at history, you can take a history class while using reading and writing skills. If not, you can always take a mystery class if that is what you are into. The possibilities are endless. From Trevor
the day starts off with tag a 30 min advisory group with one teacher and 15 kids. Tag is very good in my opinion it allows you to get to know people you wouldn't talk to regulary. Then we get to go to specials which lets us learn alot about technology that we wouldnt learn elsewhere. With using netbooks we also get to do alot of things ont he internet that many other students of other schools wouldnt do like photopeaches and many other online projects. Outside of school i play for a very elite soccer team that travels all over the midwest for games.
From Andy
School starts at 9 and ends at 4 We have netbooks for school We got them middle of last year Netbooks brake quite often We have smart boards We got smart boards in 2008 I do not like the notebooks I play football I play basketball We went to the semifinals in football We play Xbox 360 with friends We talk to friends over the internet
Ideas from Mak and Brynn At Merton, many things have changed from kindergarten to 8th grade. In kindergarten, we had the white boards, overheads, and 90% of what we did was paper and pencil. By first and second grade, we knew how to use the 3 or 4 computers in our classroom, along with the overhead. By the 3rd grade, there was a laptop cart that traveled the hallways. Then we moved to the Intermediate School in 4th grade there were 2 laptop carts that traveled the hallways at Merton School. In 5th grade, the dino computers were replaced with skinny ones. (A.K.A. the HP computers) Then, in 6th grade, the smartboards arrived. After winter break, everyone was thrilled. Then, in 7th grade over winter break, Netbooks arrived. Yes, there were some bumps in the road, but by 8th grade, they had them mastered. Some people had some parts of it break. When the 5th through 8th graders received their Netbooks, a cart filled with 24 iPads, was used for the 3rd graders. At the same time, 24 iTouches arrived for 2 classes of 4 year old kindergarten students Gym- In our gym class we get an option for each unit for what we want to do, in our last unit we had an option of participating in a dance unit where we played Just dance 2 on the Wii as a giant group, we did this with just one of our gyms teacher, her name is Mrs. Degner. Or we could have done weight lifting with one of our other gym’s teacher, his name is Mr. Pomeroy. Math- Each day in our math teacher gives us our math notes that are typed out in a template and we have to fill out the rest well she is teaching. Then at the end of each lesson we get math homework. Tech- This class is an extra time to do projects or homework and learn about film making and technology. Just last year in January we were all given a net book, this is a small computer that were all given gives us the power to do many things like, type our notes, listen to music, and we use to able to play games until some people in the school ruined it. LA- Everyday in this class is different sometimes our teacher makes up stuff for us to do, we barley ever have a quiz in this class or test.
From MarissaSocial Studies: In our school we have two social studies teachers, Mr. Kilnk and Mrs. Seeboth. We just finished learning about the Civil War. We played a stimulation game to really learn what went on during the Civil War. Right now we are learning about over wars that took place in our world. We have to make a website or a documentary in order to share our information. Spanish: We have two Spanish teachers, Mrs. Winkel and Mrs. Oppermann. We learn the basics to the language. Spanish is the only language you take at our school. You don’t have to take Spanish it is an optional choice.
1st hour – TAG, really boring barely do anything
2nd hour – LA, usually have to do something on our net books and stuff with writing or grammar.
I either have study hall or choir
4th hour- You have specials: gym, art, or info tech.
So I have a 7th hour study hall every day
8th hour- the last hour of the day. I have math and I’m really bad at math so it’s not fun. But I love my teacher Mrs.frei. She’s awesome.
Merton School
by Dominic
A Day at Merton
by Emma
When I first get up at 7:00 I take a shower.
Makenzie’s Itinerary:
1st Hour: Tag-Because our school starts at 9:00, I am ready to start the day strong! (Drop Everything And Read)
2nd Hour: Art, Gym, or Info Tech- Each day this class switches off.

Before school, I usually wake up around 7:30.

From Karissa
Gifted and Talented
One of the things that Merton is known for is our gifted and talented department. If a student is advanced in almost any subject, Merton has something different and more challenging for that student to do.
Math
When a student is advanced in math, they are able to go into the math level above them or in some cases, two levels above their grade level.
Geography
Every year Merton holds a national geography bee. If you win you are able to travel to different places to keep competing.
Spelling
Along with the geography bee, Merton also holds a spelling bee. If you are a good speller, you can eventually get to travel to the national spelling bee and possibly win that.
Reading
If a student is an advanced reader, there are many different things that that person can do.
Writing
A big thing for writing in our school is press room.
Reading and Writing
A program that we have here at our school is WCATY.
From Andy
School starts at 9 and ends at 4
We have netbooks for school
We got them middle of last year

We have smart boards
We got smart boards in 2008
I do not like the notebooks
I play football
I play basketball
We went to the semifinals in football
We play Xbox 360 with friends
We talk to friends over the internet
Ideas from Mak and Brynn
At Merton, many things have changed from kindergarten to 8th grade. At the same time, 24 iTouches arrived for 2 classes of 4 year old kindergarten students
Gym- In our gym class we get an option for each unit for what we want to do, in our last unit we had an option of participating in a dance unit where we played Just dance 2 on the Wii as a giant group, we did this with just one of our gyms teacher, her name is Mrs.
From MarissaSocial Studies:
In our school we have two social studies teachers, Mr. Kilnk and Mrs. Seeboth. We just finished learning about the Civil War. We played a stimulation game to really learn what went on during the Civil War. Right now we are learning about over wars that took place in our world. We have to make a website or a documentary in order to share our information.
Spanish:
We have two Spanish teachers, Mrs. Winkel and Mrs. Oppermann. We learn the basics to the language. Spanish is the only language you take at our school. You don’t have to take Spanish it is an optional choice.
